Saturday, March 20: Converting Grey Scale Compositions to Color
For the full assignment and diagrams, view the handout: Triad Handout
Choose a triad from a color wheel that you want to work with
Experiment with mixtures of it - create a value chart (see handout)
Take one of your grayscale compositions and convert it into the triad color scheme using collage and/or paint
Pay attention to value - try matching values with your colors
EXTRA: make a new composition with the triad
Due Date : Upload to Padlet before class on Saturday, March 27
Saturday, March 27: Tetrads and Split Complements
1. Pick a split-complement or a tetrad combination and make a painting with it (18x24 or larger!)
Don’t know how to start your painting? Reference your grey-scale compositions, your triad compositions, or one of the artists that I have shown during class. Put the images up near your work station and pull inspiration from those.
You can also set up a still life of objects - anything in your studio/workspace (pens, fruits, brushes, jars etc) - and reference those objects.
2. If you want to go further with your understanding of the colors in the split-complement or tetrad, make one of the charts I’ve recommended in the split-complement/tetrad packet.
3. Feel free to continue with the swatch and collage technique if you would like to.
