Week 1: January 9 - 15 

Pick a Cézanne painting and sketch it

Due Tuesday, January 12, at 5:00pm (for Midweek): 

  1. Pick a Cézanne painting you want to replicate 

    Here are some databases of Cézanne paintings you can look through and pick from: 

    Google Arts and Culture - Paul Cézanne

    Artsy - Paul Cézanne

    Wikipedia List of Cézanne Paintings

    Recommended Paintings:

    1. Fruit and Jug on a Table

    2. Apples

    3. Still Life with Apples and Peaches

    4. Still Life: Flask, Glass, and Jug

    5. Still Life with Milk Jug and Fruit

  2. Sketch your Cézanne painting onto a canvas

    I suggest you do your sketch on an 18x24 or 16x20 canvas.

    Remember, you can free-hand your sketch or use the grid technique.

  3. Send in an image of the Cézanne painting you are replicating and your sketch by 5pm on Tuesday, January 5th. 

    1. Send your images via email to: shabottbarrett@gmail.com 

      1. If you have trouble sending the image of the Cézanne painting, you can also just email the name of the painting and I will pull up the image during midweek for you. 

Due Friday, January 15, at 5:00pm (for Saturday class) 

  1. After the demo you saw at the midweek lesson, start painting your Cézanne replications

  2. Send in images of your painting progress by 5:00pm on Friday, January 15th

Week 2: January 16 - 22 

Keep working on Cézanne replication paintings 

Due Tuesday, January 19, at 5:00pm (for Midweek)

  1. Send in progress photographs of your Cézanne replication paintings

Due Friday, January 22, at 5:00pm (for Saturday Class) 

  1. Final Cézanne replication painting(s) due - Send in photographs of your painting

Week 3: January 23 - 29 

Start working on “Personal/Contemporary” Cézanne Paintings 

Due Tuesday, January 26 at 5:00pm (for Midweek)

  1. Compose your own Cézanne painting with a unique/personal/or contemporary twist to it 

    1. You can use one of these prompts if you are stuck on how to “spice up” your still life

      1. Squash your fruits 

      2. Cover them in colored/patterned paper 

      3. Use toothpicks to “build” something with your fruit pieces 

  2. Send in photograph of your still life - remember to compose the photo nicely so that you can paint from it

Due Friday, January 29 at 5:00pm (for Saturday class)

  1. Sketch your new still life onto a canvas (18 x24 or 16x20) for Saturday’s class and start painting if you would like

Week 4: January 30 - February 5 

Continue work on “Personal/Contemporary” Cézanne Paintings 

Due Tuesday, February 2, at 5:00pm (for Midweek)

Due Friday, February 5, at 5:00pm (for Midweek)

  1. Final images of your paintings due - send both your Cézanne replication(s) painting and your “personal/contemporary” still life
