Hofmann’s theory of push/pull is best understood when working from life.
You will draw and paint the model through exercises that reveal how line, space, color, form, and composition move on paper or canvas. Though it sounds simple, push/pull is fundamental to understanding modern art and how to draw and paint.
Our course begins with a presentation from PAAM’s collection of work of Hofmann and his students. When the model arrives online, we will draw and collage intently for three hours. A safe and empowering group critique follows. No matter what your level of experience, you will leave with artwork, a working knowledge of the push/pull theory, and an afternoon well spent with other artists.
