Revisiting Experimental Surfaces and Materials in Painting

WORKSHOP DATE: October 23 - November 20, 2021

WHEN: Saturdays, 10am - 12pm and Wednesdays, 5:30pm-6:30pm

WHERE: Virtual on Zoom, Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill

SESSIONS: 9 Sessions

PRICE: $400

TEACHERS: Laura Shabott and Alana Barrett

Our first experimental art class was so freeing for students and teachers alike that we are bringing it back. You will push the boundaries of your painting beyond the typical paint on canvas. Inspired by iconic and contemporary artists such as Yayoi Kusama and Robert Rausenberg, students will use fabrics, collage, cardboard, wood, paper mache, image transfers, wire and a plethora of bold material and surface choices in their work.

Each week, there is a lecture on legacy and contemporary artists who experiment with materials. Then, there are weekly assignments and critiques, as well as live demonstrations and working time in class. Our midweek critique guides students toward completing the assignment by Saturday. This course is exciting, affirming and transformative.
